Discrete Terrain: Windows on Five Emotions
2007

VIDEO (excerpt, 2min 5sec)
Multi-channel digital video installation
5 min 29 sec, with sound, dimensions approx 6ft high x 18ft wide

This work invites the viewer to the inner world of twelve individuals who participated in a study on the brain basis of emotions. Using data from EEG readings of the twelve subjects during five emotional states (anger, joy, fear, sadness, and disgust) 3D animations were created that are visual journeys through emotional landscapes. These are presented as windows looking into subjective terrain. Data by Dr. James Coan, Affective Neuroscience Laboratory, University of Virginia. Sound by Manly Romero.

Jewel
2006
VIDEO (excerpt, 1min 45sec)
Two channel digital video installation
2 min 32 sec, silent

Created for an exhibition entitled "Global" in which twenty artists were each given a globe to alter. Northern and Southern hemispheres are projected onto a suspended white globe. Rotating continents with demarcated nations, names, and measurements shift in color, then slowly transform into abstract land masses that dissolve into fractal patterns. This work began with the idea of our conscious lives on earth as a jewel of constructed reality.
